ARCHIVED - Lorca unveils Semana Santa 2020 poster

Advance hotel bookings are recommended for one of the most spectacular Easter celebrations in Spain

It may not yet be Christmas but in the city of Lorca preparations are already under way for the 2020 Semana Santa (or Easter Week) processions, which are among the most spectacular in Spain and always attract thousands of visitors.

This week the official poster for Semana Santa 2020 has been unveiled, featuring a design by Carmen Muñoz Manchón entitled “Pasión de Fuerza y Elegancia” (a passion of strength and elegance). The main images show a horse-drawn Roman chariot and another rider, both including the fantastically elaborate embroidered cloaks which are characteristic of the processions in Lorca, and the design as a whole transmits the dynamism and energy of the celebrations of Holy Week.

The poster will now be taken to the FITUR tourism fair in Madrid in January, which has been described as the second largest event of its kind in the world, where 3,000 copies will be distributed in Spanish and another 500 in English as the build-up for the 2020 processions continues: anyone hoping to book hotel accommodation in Lorca during Easter is advised to do so as soon as possible while vacancies still remain!
