ARCHIVED - Wheelbarrows of seafood for 50 euros: bargain Lorca restaurant goes viral
The Lorca eatery offers unlimited food and drink and a one of a kind dining experience
Having a meal at Michelin starred restaurants and exclusive eateries is as much about the overall dining experience as it is the food, and people usually expect to pay top dollar for that kind of service. Not so in the Region of Murcia, where one humble Lorca establishment has gone viral for its dramatic – and cheap – seafood spectacular.
For just 50 euros, diners can gorge on unlimited food and drinks, but that’s nothing compared to the show the La Peña restaurant puts on for its customers. A waiter dressed as the crab Sebastian from the Little Mermaid makes a striking entrance pushing an entire wheelbarrow full of crabs, prawns, clams and other seafood.
Then, to the tune of the Spanish national anthem, oceans of fish are heaped onto a paella in the middle of the table from actual shovels. Carnivores won’t be disappointed either, as singing and dancing staff carry out enormous platters of meat which can be cooked on griddles by the customers.
Since all that eating is thirsty work, the restaurant has come up with a unique way to serve drinks too: the waiters carry backpacks filled with wine, which is sprayed directly into the glasses.
The staff entertain their guests throughout the evening in what is called its 'Marisco a lo bestia' show, with owner Pedro Lucas even simulating a bullfight in the middle of the restaurant.
According to the TikToker who originally shared the video, the dining experience "is a complete show from the moment you enter until you leave."
The video has almost 170,000 views on TikTok and more than 300,000 on Twitter and has, deservedly, gone viral this week.
