Free guided tours in Águilas January 2020
Sunday 12th January: free dramatized tour of Roman Águilas (in Spanish)
Starting point: tourist office.
Time: 10:30 (duration 3 hours)
Free visits to the Archaeological Museum, the Roman baths, the Plaza de España, the Castle of San Juan de las Águilas and the Ícaro Carnival monument. Registration at the Oficina de Turismo (telephone 968 493285).Click here for online booking link and further information.
Sunday 19th January: free Ruta del Ferrocarril (Route of the Railways) tour in Spanish
Starting point: Monumento al Ferrocarril.
Time: 10.00 to 13.00.
The tour is conducted on the tourist train, and includes the Monumento al Ferrocarril, Sendero del Hornillo, the station, the railway museum and Casa Huerto de Don Jorge.
The visit is free of charge but numbers are limited and prior registration is required at the Tourist Office (T: 968 493285) or via the online booking system. Sunday 26th January: free guided walk in the Cuatro Calas area at the south-western end of the Águilas coastline
Starting point: Playa de Calarreona at the corner of the campsite next to the beach
Time: 10.00 to 12.00.
On the boundary with Andalucía, this is a beautiful area with fascinating geological, natural and historical stories to tell. Click for further information or to book.

Astronotuya: Pasear entre las estrellas
This is a Spanish language activity which has an astronomical focus and is run by dedicated astronomers. The activity lasts for three hours and can be run throughout the year according to the needs of each group. For the activity to run a minimum of three people, each paying 40 euros (adults) or 30 euros for children up to the age of 12, is required. Special prices are offered for larger groups.The activity includes a 15 minute star gazing activity with the naked eye before the observation via telescopes.

Multicines El Hornillo: cinema in original English language version
Films in original version every Tuesday evening. See what's on subject heading for weekly programme or see the cinema's Facebook page. Further information at 968 414 379. Seats can be reserved 30 minutes before each screening on 968 412757 (telephone number evenings only). The weekly program is available from the Tourist Office and more info can also be found on the Facebook page of the cinema: Multicines Hornillo Águilas.
The cinema is located in the Águilas Plaza shopping centre on the outskirts of the town near the auditorium.
Cineclub
Screenings every Thursday in original version at 20.00, admission to see these classic movies costs just one euro (or 10 euros for a one-year membership). The films are shown in the Casa de Cultura Francisco Rabal.

Events at the Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos Infanta Doña Elena

Exhibition: Los Poetas del Flamenco by Pedro Juan Rabal, from 5th December to 4th January. The exhibition can be seen in the auditorium from Tuesday to Sunday from 18.00 to 21.00. (closed 24th/25th/31st December and 1st January). Click for further details.
Exhibition: Obras Maestras de la Pintura, Contemporáneos de Coronado, an exhibition of works which can be viewed on the walls of the auditorium when it is open for other events.

Friday 17th January: Chamber music preformed by a trio of cello, piano and violin featuring works by Beethoven. Tickets are 10 euros, this concert forming part of the pro-music association cycle. Click for ticketing information

Fiestas in honour of San Antón Abad in Tebár between the 18th and 19th January.
Saturday 18th January
09.00 Guided senderismo route through the parklands of Tébar, lead by local archaeologist Juan de Díos Hernández. Meeting point at Tébar social centre. Registration 5 euros including migas , fruit and a drink after the route.
21.00 Humorist Johnny García performs
22.00 Flamenco and Canción Española spectacular featuring cantaora (vocals) from Mari Carmen González Vento
Sunday 19th January
13.00 In the Salón Social, mass and blessing of the animals.
14.00 Solemn procession with the image of San Antón Abad. As normal, the right to carry the throne will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. At the end, the Cantos de Pascuas will be sung by the Cuadrillas.
Following this, there´s a baile de pujas, an open air dance with music by the Cuadrillas of Marina de Cope and Cuesta de Gos, in which onlookers will pay a donation to church funds to designate other people who have to join in with the dancing.It’s a totally traditional Murcian custom. Great fun to watch and an extremely traditional way to spend a fiesta afternoon.
All welcome to come along and join in.
