ARCHIVED - Vaccination of 70-79 year olds in Mazarron is going ahead on Wednesday
Claims on social media that this is not happening are false
The pandemic has been an unsettling experience for all of us and has certainly brought home the importance of the internet as a means of rapid communication and sharing of information.
However, the use of social media has been both beneficial and destructive, the uncontrolled nature of this platform converting social media into anti-social media on many occasions, and allowing free speech for everyone, including those with anti-establishment, anti-mask, anti vaccine and anti-compliance messages who still deny the pandemic is a reality.
Unfortunately, Facebook has changed from being a social service to a multi-billion dollar money-making industry and allows false information to circulate freely, denying those running open pages to block fake profiles from posting, so the vitriol and mis-information continues unabated.
In the last couple of weeks there have been several social media hoaxes relating to the vaccination campaign, and in the Mazarrón municipality the councillor for international residents has issued a communication advising residents that social media posts claiming that the mass vaccination of 70-79 year olds scheduled for Wednesday is not going ahead are false and that vaccination will be taking place as planned.
The next massive vaccination will be WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21 from 9 in the morning at the LA ACEÑA SPORTS PAVILION in Mazarrón town (CLICK HERE for map) for those aged between 70 and 79 who are registered with the regional health service and live in the Mazarrón municipality.
The SMS, regional health service, will notify all those who are to be vaccinated on this occasion by phone, giving an appointment time.
If you are NOT called on this occasion, have not already received a first vaccine elsewhere or been given an appointment in Cartagena already, but live in the Mazarrón municipality and are aged between 70 and 79, the council has advised that you should go to the pavilion regardless at some point during the morning and ensure that your contact details are properly registered with the health authorities.Take your ID card, (or green certificate) and Murcian health service card to prove identity and residence.
There have been spare vaccines on occasions at these mass vaccinations should those called for an appointment not show up, so you may be lucky and get vaccinated.
If you are NOT within this age group, then do not go to the sports centre as your age group may be allocated a different vaccine, but make sure the contact details registered with the health authorities are correct.
If you are NOT registered with the Murcian regional health authority as you have private insurance, then you can register your request for a vaccine online with the regional health authority via the following link: CLICK HERE.
The vaccination programme is being carried out from 9 in the morning and lasting until the afternoon without stopping for lunch. Adequate seating is provided inside for those in the queue, but large queues have formed in other areas outside of the centres, so if do have trouble standing for any period of time, it may be worth taking some sort of portable seating along and assessing the size of the queue before deploying it!
70-79 year olds are being given the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
