Until September 8 Annual fiestas in the Mazarron village of La Majada
The fiestas of La Majada are held in honour of the Purísima Concepción
La Majada is a small hamlet 9 kilometres west of Mazarrón, with only around 200 inhabitants according to the "padrón" or local register in 2021, and over 50 of these residents are non-Spaniards.
However, it is a village full of history and traditions, and one of those which is maintained to the present day is the celebration of the annual fiestas in honour of the Inmaculada Concepción, which have one notable peculiarity. The official date of this religious holiday is 8th December, but the fiestas are normally held in the first week of September in order to coincide with the time of year when farm workers are resting.
This year the celebrations run from August 30 to September 8, encompassing two weekends, and are dotted with DJ music and dancing as well as the traditional religious procession on September 8 itself.
The program for the 2024 fiestas in La Majada includes the following:
Wednesday September 4
21.00: Help the locals prepare the typical "pestiños" delicacy!
22.00: Finals of the different board and card game tournaments.
Thursday September 5
22.30: Live music from Los Caporales and an evening of musical bingo.
23.30: Migas Ruleras competition, enjoy a traditional late dinner!
Midnight: Karaoke night with prizes for the best local and visiting performers!
1.30: DJ music.
Friday September 6
22.30: Live music from Pedro el Flamenkito and the election of the fiestas visitors' king and queen for 2024.
1.00h: DJ Germán and DJ Thekaarmaa.
Saturday September 7
12.00: Community lunch with a free aperitivo and then ham slicing by resident "El José del Moreno", the ham donated by Restaurante La Inesperada. Musical bingo during the aperitivo.
13.30: Traditional cooking competition with prizes and live music.
17.30: Crazy cars competition with prizes for the fastest and most original entrants!
22.30: Fancy dress competitions and musical entertainment fromn local group Six Seven.
2.00: DJ Paul Martin.
Sunday September 8, the culmination of the fiestas
12.00: Children's party organized by ZOE Socioeducativo.
14.00: Community paella popular (1€ per portion, to be donated to the fiestas organizing committee for next year) plus surprises and a raffle. Musical bingo.
19.00: Musical Mass in honour of the Purísima Concepción and the procession of the figure of the Virgin through the streets of the village. Everyone is invited to take part dressed in traditional local "huertano" costume!
22.00: Pestiños and hot chocolate for all to end the 2024 fiestas.
