ARCHIVED - Two men caught dumping rubble in Lorca riverbed
The council of the city of Lorca in the Murcia region has stressed that dumping rubbish is a serious offence and that perpetrators can face fines of between 6,000 and 12,000 euros.
Two men have been caught red-handed by the Local Police in Lorca (Murcia) while throwing rubble into the Guadalentín river in the Ribera de San Miguel area.
A passerby called the police after spotting the pair emptying waste from the boot of a car and throwing it into the riverbed.
The pair were still dumping rubbish when a patrol arrived at the scene, so officers identified them, informed them of the ban on dumping rubbish and issued reports and penalty notices before making them collect their rubble from the river and put it back in the boot of their car for disposal via the facilities provided by the council.
Every municipality has an eco-parque and many local councils also offer rubbish collection services for larger items which cannot be transported by car. Skips are available for hire right across the region and commercial rubbish disposal services are available for business contractors; so there is no reason to pollute the environment say the council.
