The residential development of Camposol in Mazarron

Around 5,000 homes, most occupied by expats, just a few kilometres from Mazarrón and the Mediterranean coast

The residential development of Camposol in Mazarron

The urbanization or residential development of Camposol is located in what was, until around 30 years ago, the open countryside of the district of El Saladillo in the municipality of Mazarrón.

In the late 20th century those heading for the coast in Mazarrón from the city of Murcia would use the old road between El Palmar and Mazarrón and would often stop at a roadside bar-restaurant in El Saladillo. However, as developers bought up the land and begin to build, the landscape and views changed dramatically as thousands of homes sprouted up, and now even the road has largely disappeared to be replaced by the RM-3 motorway, which cuts right through the middle of Camposol.

The development enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the mountains of the Sierra Espuña and the Sierra de las Moreras, and is just a 10-minute drive from the town of Mazarrón and only a little further from 35 kilometres of beaches on the Mediterranean coast. It is also within easy reach of the towns of Alhama de Murcia and Totana, and is therefore close to good shopping, facilities and services.

Camposol itself is now well-established and extensive, containing around 5000 completed homes on four different sectors and offering a wide choice of property to suit all budgets. Most of them are suitable for permanent or semi-permanent residents although there are also holiday apartments in a safe and populated environment.

The community is truly multicultural: although the population is predominantly British, there are a fair few other northern and eastern Europeans and even around 100 Spaniards! The population is currently approximately 3,500.

The facilities in Camposol include an 18-hole par 72 golf course with a large clubhouse, two shopping centres, a supermarket, a petrol station, a medical centre, a post office, a pharmacy, a community centre and a wide selection of businesses, bars and restaurants. It even has its own weekly market and annual fiestas!

The permanent population has also spawned a wide variety of clubs, voluntary groups, charities and social groups, with something to suit all interests, and there are also several support groups assisting residents should they need help at any point in their lives.

In addition, an extensive programme of cultural entertainment is available with music and social activities at the local bars. The nearby towns also have their own cultural programmes and there are major music festivals and auditoriums in Murcia, Cartagena and Águilas.

Potential days out nearby are abundant. Apart from the beaches of Mazarrón, it is not far to a series of historic cities, hilltop towns, vineyards and wine producing areas, natural parks, the mountainous forests of the Sierra Espuña, as well as golf courses, varied walking and cycling terrain, water sports facilities, marinas and a wide range of other sports.
