The Pasarela Manterola is a pedestrian bridge in Lorca which crosses the river bed of the Guadalentín, a channel which is usually dry but can become a raging torrent during occasional episodes of flash flooding.
The bridge was designed by Javier Manterola, who was born in Pamplona in 1936, and named after the architect, although a proposal was passed in council in 2016 to rename it after former Mayor Miguel Navarro Molina. Locals still refer to it as the Manterola bridge, a term also used by residents of the city of Murcia in reference to a similar structure which carries pedestrians across the River Segura and which was designed by the same man.
The two pavements of the bridge give it an unusual but attractive oval shape, and it is clearly visible from the old Puente de la Alberca which stands a little further north and the far more substantial structure which constitutes the main bridge over the Guadalentín in Lorca.
