ARCHIVED - Spanish Government extends closure of Schengen border until October 31st
A dozen countries are exempt from the order as well as EU member states
The Official State Gazette (BOE) published a ministerial order this Thursday extending the temporary closure of the Schengen border decreed in July for non-essential travel until midnight on October 31st, the only exceptions being members of the European Uniion, those living within the Schengen area, habitual residents of Andorra, The Vatican, San Marino and a dozen countries which are granted an exception.
The only non-European citizens allowed to enter Spain will come from Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay and China, although in the latter case the EU decided to subject it to reciprocity .
The closure of the external border also provides exceptions for cross-border workers, students with their corresponding visa, health professionals, including health researchers, and elderly care professionals who are directed or return from carrying out their work activity, personnel dedicated to the transport of goods, military, diplomatic or consular personnel.
