ARCHIVED - Spanish Covid figures Tuesday 7th July
124 new cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours
The number of positive coronavirus cases in Spain confirmed during the last 24 hours has rebounded this Tuesday to 124, 46 more than on Monday.
The largest numbers of new cases are in the areas affected by the weekend lockdowns, or related to them; 36 in Catalonia, 26 in Aragon and 22 in the Community of Madrid.
Breakdown by area (new figures in brackets):
Andalucía 13.275 (+11); Aragón 6.519 (+26); Asturias 2.435; Balearic Islands 2.239; Canary Islands 2.443 personas (+1); Cantabria 2.368; Castilla-La Mancha 18.291 (+6); Castilla y León 19.773; Catalonia 62.943 (+36); Ceuta 163; Comunidad Valenciana 11.685 (+8); Extremadura 3.066 (+2); Galicia 9.336 (+2); Madrid 72.336 (+22); Melilla 126; Murcia 1.709 (+2); Navarra 5.486 (+2); basque Country 13.859 (+6); La Rioja 4.078.

This brings the national total of confirmed cases since the epidemic began to 252,130.
The disparity in the figures published by the Catalonia Government and the official figures provided by the regional Ministry of Health has raised a few eyebrows, as the Catalan Government reported 74 new positives only in the region of El Segrià, which has been confined again due to its high level of transmission, yet the Catalan health authority has only officially reported 36 for the entire region.
Yesterday the Catalan government admitted that it had lied about the situation in the Segriá area as it had been concerned that the public would do a “starburst” and flock down to the coastal areas of the region if they had known that they were about to be confined for two weeks.
In the last 24 hours the total number of deceased has increased by four people to 28,392. The only regions of Spain notifying new cases in the last 24 hours are; Aragón (1), Castilla-La Mancha (1), Castilla y León (1), Cataluña (1), Madrid (4) Basque Country (1).
Deaths in care homes attracts criticism due to poor quality of data
The Ministry of Health acknowledged today that the poor quality of the data on deaths in residences given by the autonomous communities during the pandemic has made it difficult to accurately calculate the total figure, as most of the deaths in private residences were not tested so cannot categorically be said to relate to Covid-19, so the total figure ranges from 27,359 to 32,843 deaths, according to different sources.
