ARCHIVED - Spain Covid cases; Thursday 9th July; 241 new cases and 5 deaths
Nobody can doubt that 28,000 deaths is a pretty good reason in itself for taking precautionary measures against Covid-19, but the rising number of new cases reported in the last few days and the number of outbreaks starting to appear with renewed vigour add fuel to that argument and in the last 48 hours three regions of Spain have brought in stricter measures to try and halt the spread of the pandemic further.
All three; Cataluña, the Balearic Islands and Basque Country are now insisting that masks are worn at all times when in public, regardless of whether social distancing is bring observed or not and whether the wearer is indoors or outdoors.
And with good reason.
On Thursday the Ministry of Health published the figures for the last 24 hours, notifying 241 new positives for Covid-19, only16 fewer than the 257 on Wednesday. Click for detailed information
Aragon (59), Andalusia (32), Catalonia (52) and Madrid (22) account for the bulk of the new cases, as well as 20 in Castilla-La Mancha; 11 in Galicia; 9 in the Basque Country; 6 in the Canary Islands, 6 in Extremadura and 6 in Murcia; 4 in Navarra; 2 in the Balearic islands and 1 in Cantabria.
10 new deaths have occurred in the last seven days, and five in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 28,401.
Today the Health Ministry confirmed that there are now 73 outbreaks in Spain; Click for full information
