ARCHIVED - Ryanair and Easyjet expand routes and launch special offers on flights to the Canary Islands
On Thursday both the German and UK governments announced that restrictions relating to the Canary islands had been lifted and no quarantines would be imposed on travellers
On Thursday Jet2 also announced the resumption of flights to the Canary Islands.
Ryanair:
Ryanair has announced a special offer for flights from Germany and the United Kingdom to the Canary Islands from 29.99 euros one way until the end of January after the inclusion of the archipelago in the safe corridors of both countries.
As reported by the airline, this is a promotion that will be available until midnight on Monday, October 26th, on the Ryanair.com website.
Ryanair will sell cheaper tickets for seven routes from Germany and for about 30 connections from the United Kingdom.
Easyjet:
EesyJet has announced the creation of five new routes between the United Kingdom and the Canary Islands, the advancement in the schedule of another two connections that it had planned to offer and the expansion of the capacity of the existing ones.
The decision is the result of the "decision of the United Kingdom government to add the Canary Islands to the list of territories exempt from quarantine upon return," explained the airline in a statement. Germany has made a very similar decision that also benefits the Canary Islands.
In total, there will be 180,000 new seats that will go on sale from now until March 2021. This decision demonstrates the almost immediate cause-effect relationship that exists between the travel restrictions with the airlines' operations, which are going through the crisis worst in its history.
Specifically, the flights will link Edinburgh with Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Glasgow with Tenerife and Gran Canaria and Belfast with Tenerife from November 7. It has also added new flights between London-Gatwick and Manchester to Tenerife and Lanzarote. In addition, EasyJet brings the premiere of the London-Luton routes to Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria forward to 7th November.
"Since the government announcement last night we have already seen an increase in demand for flights and vacations to the Canary Islands, with a daily increase of 500% in searches, so we know that there is demand from customers: they want to travel and this shows that they will do so as the travel restrictions are relaxed ", explained the director of the airline in Spain, Javier Gándara.
