Renfe recalls troublesome train causing delays to Alicante and Murcia

Renfe has taken a faulty Avlo train off the tracks after it caused delays of up to 3 hours between Madrid and Alicante this Monday July 22.

This Tuesday, July 23, the only train that suffered a significant delay was a Madrid-Alicante-Murcia train, which arrived in the province with a delay of 64 minutes due to problems unrelated to yesterday’s breakdown.

The breakdown occurred in the pantograph of an Avlo train, which is the bit on top of the train which transmits the electric current from a catenary cable to the train.

Avlo trains are supposed to be high-speed and low-cost, but, between the delay and the heat, this Monday’s breakdown caused travel woes for hundreds of passengers.

Both Renfe and Adif agree that delays on the 14 trains running this Tuesday on the Madrid (Chamartín)-Alicante line will be ‘minimal’.

Renfe reports that the only train that suffered a significant delay this morning was the 6.15am Madrid-Alicante-Murcia Avlo, which arrived 64 minutes later than planned.

Iryo and Ouigo have two and three departures scheduled for today, respectively. Ouigo has reported that the Valladolid-Madrid-Alicante line is running more than 22 minutes late due to technical problems. The two Iryo trains between Madrid and Alicante are departing on time.
