ARCHIVED - Poison found on Mazarrón dog beach again
The same thing happened last year during holiday season
Residents and holidaymakers close to the dog-friendly beach of Playa de las Moreras in Bolnuevo, a few kilometres west of Puerto de Mazarrón, have been warning on social media this week that someone appears to be making a concerted effort to poison dogs in the area again.
Last year police were called in to investigate a very similar incident, with poison left on the same beach during holiday season.
In July 2019 several dogs were taken to the vet suffering from poisoning before the poison was located on the dog beach, but this year it was reported on social media at the weekend that the bags of poison mixed with food had been found buried on the beach on Sunday.
Local police have been informed and users of social media requested to share the information.
The poisoning of animals is a criminal offence under the Penal Code, although the chances of finding out who actually buried the poison are very slim.
Users are advised to pay particular attention to their animals when using the dog beach.
There are three dog-friendly beaches in the municipality, those of Las Moreras, Cobaticas (on the stretch of coastline between Bolnuevo and Percheles) and Playa Gachero (between El Alamillo and the centre of Puerto de Mazarrón).
