Petrol prices in Spain hover around €1.80 a litre ahead of August bank holiday rush
The average cost of filling a 55-litre tank in Spain has reached €99.30 as millions of drivers prepare to hit the road

Petrol prices in Spain are finally showing signs of settling down a bit after rising sharply last week, although drivers heading off on their summer holidays will still be paying close to €100 to fill a typical 55-litre tank.
The latest figures from the Ministry for Ecological Transition's Gas Station Geoportal put the average price of diesel at €1.806 per litre. That means filling a 55-litre tank would cost around €99.30.
Petrol is currently cheaper, with an average price of €1.691 per litre, meaning the same 55-litre tank would cost approximately €93.
The figures come just ahead of Saturday August 15, traditionally one of the busiest times of the summer for people travelling by car as millions of people head away for their holidays.
Although fuel prices aren't continuing to rise at the same pace seen last week, they remain close to the levels recorded at the beginning of August. Diesel was then averaging €1.818 per litre, while petrol stood at €1.705.
Prices are considerably lower than the peak reached earlier this year, however. On March 21, diesel reached an average of €1.942 per litre, while petrol peaked at €1.796.
The recent changes in fuel prices come after the government altered its temporary tax measures introduced during the economic fallout from the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the US.
At a Council of Ministers meeting on July 29, the government approved a royal decree-law that ended the temporary 10% VAT rate on fuel introduced as part of earlier anti-crisis measures.
At the same time, the special tax on hydrocarbons was reduced from 15 cents per litre to 10 cents per litre from July.
The changes interrupted a downward trend that had seen fuel prices fall for five consecutive weeks. Diesel had previously fallen by 11%, while petrol had reached its lowest price of the year.
There are currently only two service stations in Spain charging more than €2 per litre for 95-octane unleaded petrol, according to the Ministry's Gas Station Geoportal. One is in Alhama de Murcia and the other is in Mahón, Menorca.
For 98-octane petrol, the number is considerably higher, with 39 service stations charging more than €2 per litre.
Diesel is also being sold above the €2 mark at 24 service stations across Spain, despite its average national price remaining below that level.
