Orihuela goes digital to reach new, younger audiences
TikTok, Spotify, and Wikiloc help bring the city’s culture and nature closer to everyone
Orihuela’s tourism team is shaking things up with a fresh digital approach aimed straight at younger visitors - and anyone curious enough to listen in. They’ve just launched new channels on TikTok, Spotify, and Wikiloc, with the goal of showing off everything that makes the city special, but in a way that clicks with today’s social media habits. The city’s Councillor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, explains, “Tourism has changed. People get inspired on TikTok and Spotify, so we want to be there when they’re deciding where to go next.” So, on TikTok, you’ll now find snappy, fun videos that highlight Orihuela’s landmarks and local experiences.
Over on Spotify, there’s a series of podcasts where you can dive into the city’s history, chat with locals, and hear about traditions. The first one celebrates the Virgen de Monserrate festival, which takes place between September 6-21, and coming up there’ll be a special on one of Spain’s greatest 20th-century poets, Miguel Hernández, timed perfectly with his birthday.
But wait, there’s more! Orihuela has also jumped on board with Wikiloc, an app for outdoor fans, by sharing geo-located routes that let you explore hiking and cycling paths all around the area. It’s a great way to connect with nature and a clear nod to the city’s commitment to sustainable, year-round tourism.
All this is part of a wider strategy, funded by the EU’s Next Generation Funds, to keep Orihuela welcoming and relevant no matter your age or interests. The whole thing runs under the catchy brand name “Orihuela Turística,” which sums up the city’s vibrant identity.
With these exciting additions, Orihuela confidently steps into the digital age, making it easier than ever for people, whether locals or tourists, to connect with and discover the city’s unique charm.
