ARCHIVED - Number of new covid-19 cases continues to slow down in Murcia Region on Wednesday
Fatalities remain high; eight patients have died within the last 24 hours
Although it’s too early to say without any doubt that the coronavirus situation in the Murcia Region has started to stabilise, the figures published on Wednesday continue to show a de-celeration when compared to the figures published during the last month when the number of new patients affected by the virus has been accelerating.
This de-celeration comes just over a week and a half after the decision to close bars and restaurants was taken and this is now the fourth consecutive day on which the percentage of positive tests has dropped significantly.
Last Wednesday, 11th November, the regional health authority reported 869 new covid cases and a positivity rate of 14.9%, carrying out 5,825 tests.
This Wednesday 423 new cases have been reported, less than half the figure of last week, but more importantly, the percentage of PCR and antigen tests yielding positive results has dropped to 7,7%, even though only slightly less tests have been carried out; 5,448.
This is almost half of the rate reported last week, and had the rate remained the same, then the number of new cases reported today would have been almost double.
Murcia City reported the highest number of new contagions, with 79, and although this is still a high figure is a lot lower than the level of figures being reported in the last month, Lorca added 53, Yecla added 51, 28 were allocated to Cartagena, 20 to Torre Pacheco, 19 to Águilas, 19 to San Javier, 11 to Los Alcázares, 11 to Alhama de Murcia, 11 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 11 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 10 to Alcantarilla, 10 to Cieza, 10 to Jumilla, 10 to Totana, 8 to Archena, 8 to Molina de Segura, 6 to Cehegín, 5 to Abanilla, 5 to Calasparra, 5 to Mula, and 5 to Santomera, with the remainder distributed among various locations in quantities of less than 5.
The total number of cases diagnosed to date in the region has now gone past the 50,000 mark, with a new total of 50,143.
Fatalities:
There have been eight further deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total up to 510. The five men and three women aged 78, 87, 92, 88, 82, 80, 90 and 96 were from the City of Murcia (3) and one each from Caravaca de la Cruz, Molina de Segura, Campos del Río, Cieza and Alhama de Murcia.
Hospitalisations:
The good news is that the number of patients hospitalised has decreased by 19 during the last 24 hours, taking the current total back down below 600 to 598. This is still a significant figure and there are 106 patients in intensive care units, so the regional health service remains under intense pressure, although fractionally less than yesterday.
10,267 patients remain in home isolation with mild symptoms.
Recoveries:
691 patients have been given the all-clear during the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered patients to 36,241. The fact that more patients were removed from the active patients list than were added as new cases, means that the number of active cases around the region has now dropped down below 11,000 to 10,865.
AI rate:
All of which contributes to lowering the accumulated incidence rate, the AI rate, which calculates the number of patients per 100,000 of population and today fell to 247 over the last 7 days.
The worst affected municipality is Yecla with a rate of 821, followed by Caravaca with 605, Totana 524, Cehegín 513 and Alhama de Murcia 493, whilst Fortuna now has the lowest rate with 79.
Although the number of municipalities with figures below 200 has now increased to 20, which is a huge improvement on the position last week, the target level is 25 cases per 100,000 for the virus to be considered under control, and currently 43 out of 45 municipalities in this region have more than three times that rate.
