The collapse of a wall due to water accumulation has caused a suspension of rail traffic between Villa del Río and Montoro (Córdoba). Renfe has established a road service for passengers on affected medium and long-distance trains.

 

The wall collapse occurred this Friday January 23 after a week plagued by train accidents in various parts of Spain, which have prompted train drivers to call a strike in early February until safety concerns on the country’s railway network are addressed.

 

Following the Córdoba wall collapse, in which thankfully no one was harmed, Renfe has established a bus replacement for passengers on medium-distance trains running between Córdoba and Jaén.

 

It was the adverse weather conditions this Friday that caused water to accumulate on the track between the two Andalucía cities and a retaining wall to collapse. This was confirmed by sources from Adif, Spain’s public railway infrastructure company, who have stated that traffic has been interrupted since 3.47am on Friday between the Córdoba towns of Villa del Río and Montoro (Cordoba-Linares-Baeza section).
