ARCHIVED - New EasyJet base opened at Malaga Airport
The new EasyJet headquarters at Malaga Airport in Andalucia will create local jobs.
As Andalucia tries to attract tourists back to the region after the pandemic, airline EasyJet has unveiled a new hub at Malaga Airport in a boost for the Costa del Sol’s tourism industry.
The new base joins the airline’s existing hubs in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca and is expected to create around 100 jobs.
Easyjet is the fourth largest airline in Spain and currently flies to Malaga from 18 European airports, with the company saying that their new headquarters will give them the chance to expand their operations in Spain.
The company will now also be able to offer more flights as demand increases on the Costa del Sol as tourism reopens.
The opening ceremony of the new EasyJet headquarters was attended by the president of Costa del Sol Tourism, Francisco Salado, Manuel Pablo Muñoz, Secretary General of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucia, Francisco de la Torre, mayor of Malaga, Pedro Bendala, director of the Malaga-Costa del Sol airport, and Javier Gendara, EasyJet general director for southern Europe.
Officials from across the Costa del Sol are currently trying to increase tourism numbers after it was revealed that Spain will not join the UK’s travel green list until at least June 24 and the move by Easyjet to open their new base in Malaga is good news for the area as its positions itself as one of Spain’s main tourism destinations.
