ARCHIVED - Murcia-Bilbao flights at Corvera airport next summer
Another domestic service to and from northern Spain is offered by Volotea
The new Region of Murcia International Airport at Corvera continues to register lower passenger numbers in 2019 than its predecessor, Murcia-San Javier, last year, but hopes that the figures could improve in the second year of operation have been boosted slightly by the announcement that a new direct route between the Costa Cálida and the Basque Country will become operational next spring.
The service is to be offered by Volotea, who this year have been running flights between Corvera and the northern Spanish region of Asturias. According to the airline, the Murcia-Bilbao route will become operational on 27th May 2020 after the connection with Asturias proved a success, with 95 per cent of seats sold and a total of approximately 10,000 passengers during the summer.
The flights to and from Bilbao will run alongside the Asturias service and it is reported to be the intention of Volotea to add more routes as time goes on.
At Bilbao Volotea currently operate flights to and from 13 destinations including 7 in Spain plus Naples, Palermo, Venice, Vienna, Malta and Cagliari. Murcia will be added to these destinations between May and July 2020 with flights taking off in the Basque Country on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6.45 and 7.00 before undertaking the return journey shortly after arrival.
