ARCHIVED - More than 20 provinces in Spain on alert for storms: September 14
An Atlantic storm will bring lower temperatures, rain and storms to much of Spain
As Hurricane Larry sweeps across the United States and Canada it seems that Spain will not escape totally unscathed, as more than twenty provinces have been placed on alert for heavy rain, storms and even hail in the case of Menorca.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), all of the Mediterranean can expect typical autumn weather on Tuesday September 14, with lower temperatures and an increased amount of rainfall.

The yellow weather warning signifies a risk of strong storms with rainfall that could lead to the accumulation of between 15 and 20 litres of water per square metre per hour and up to 60 litres over the space of 12 hours.
The risk of rain will extend to Toledo, Ciudad Real, Huesca, Zaragoza, Lerida and Madrid also. In Menorca, a weather phenomenon known as a metatsunami could cause sea levels to rise by 0.7 metres, while very strong gusts of wind are expected in mountain areas of Spain and Mallorca.
Strong and persistent rain and stormy weather is forecast for Andalucía, mountainous areas of Extremadura and western Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, León, western Cantabria and the southern Pyrenees.
The instability is caused by an Atlantic storm located to the west of the Peninsula, according to Aemet. The squall will move eastwards as Tuesday progresses, spreading showers and winds throughout Spain.
The rain will also bring with it the most unwelcome red Saharan dust, which is carried in a mass of warm air from Africa. These dust clouds usually leave a thick residue on Spanish streets and cars and can also cause difficulty breathing.
Aemet has also forecast a drop in temperatures across the Peninsula on Tuesday, with a more prominent decline in inland areas.
