ARCHIVED - Moderate rainfall in Murcia as the Region escapes the worst of the gota fría
No serious flooding with the highest rainfall figure of 35 millimetres in La Manga
Although rain fell steadily throughout Tuesday morning in many parts of the Region of Murcia the forecasters at Aemet appear to have got it right in predicting that this latest “gota fría” episode would be far less significant than the one which caused widespread flooding in mid-September.
As of midday the heaviest of the rain is reported by Aemet to have been in La Manga del Mar Menor, where 36.6 millimetres had been recorded by 12.00, while elsewhere the totals had reached 35 mm in Puerto Lumbreras and 33.6 mm in Mula at 15.00, 32.4 millimetres in Calasparra at 13.00 and 30.6 mm in Caravaca de la Cruz at 15.10. The rainfall was very even throughout the Region, with other figures reported including 28 mm in Cartagena, 27.2 mm in Águilas, 20.2 mm in Murcia, 23.2 mm in Torre Pacheco and 20.6 mm in Mazarrón.
As predicted, there was significantly more rain in other Mediterranean coastal regions, with the highest figures reported in parts of Tarragona, Alicante, Valencia and the Balearics, and although the situation may change the alert for possible rain in the Region of Murcia has now been lifted.
The 112 emergency services coordination reports no flood-related incidents, although the local police in Murcia warned that a local road was closed by floodwater in Avileses.
At mid-afternoon La Manga also topped the table in terms of the highest temperature of the day in Murcia at 17.4 degrees and the strongest gust of wind at 54 km/h!
