Major street closures in Cartagena for Artillery Cross Country race this Sunday
Expect roadblocks mainly from 11am to 2pm with extra police on duty to manage traffic disruptions
This Sunday, November 16, Cartagena will host the Artillery Cross Country Race, bringing with it several road closures and increased police presence to manage the event. The Local Police will bolster their ranks with 20 additional officers on regular duty to help with the flow and safety of both participants and residents.Traffic restrictions will mainly take place from 11.00am to 2.00pm, affecting streets including: Paseo Alfonso XII, Cuesta del Batel, San Diego, Serreta, Plaza López Pinto, Carlos III, Del Aire, Cañón, General Ordoñez, Muralla del Mar, Adarve de Artillería, Gisbert, Tolosa Latour, Avenida Pío XII, Algameca Road, Puerta de Navantia, and Christmas Lighthouse Road. Parking will also be prohibited on the Christmas Lighthouse esplanade during the race.
It's important to note that access to private car parks in the city centre will be controlled by authorities and will depend on race conditions and instructions from the Policía Local.
Early closures will see Paseo Alfonso XII, from the Plaza de La Isla roundabout to the intersection of Calle Real and Calle Plaza San Agustín, closed to traffic from 7.00am. However, two-way traffic will be allowed on the two lanes heading towards Plaza de La Isla to facilitate entry and exit from the parking lot in this area.
Residents and visitors are advised to plan accordingly and expect some disruptions during the event. The organisers and Policía Local aim to ensure smooth operations and safe conditions for everyone involved.
Whether you’re cheering on the runners or navigating the city, being aware of these closures will help you get around Cartagena on race day with as little inconvenience as possible.
