Los Alcázares Roscón cake raises 1,400 euros for charity
A tasty boost for Cáritas and local businesses as the people of Los Alcázares welcome the Three Kings
It may have been unusually cold, but the locals in Los Alcázares were out in force on Sunday 4th January as they flocked to the Plaza Manuel Floreal Menárguez to enjoy a slice of the traditional Roscón de Reyes cake, which is eaten to celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings, and in the process helped raise 1,400 euros for the local branch of the Cáritas charity.
Hidden in the cake were surprise prizes worth 1,000 euros, no doubt adding to their appetite as they wolfed down the cake at 3 euros per portion (washed down with a cup of hot chocolate, of course). The prizes consisted of vouchers to be spent in various of the shops in the town, providing encouragement to support local businesses.
