ARCHIVED - Los Alcázares postal worker caught throwing letters in the bin
A member of the public spotted the postal delivery employee emptying the contents of her topbox into a bin and called the police
A postal delivery worker from the Los Alcázares Post Office will face criminal charges after being seen throwing 150 letters in a rubbish bin instead of deliverig them.
The investigation began when a local resident called the Guardia Civíl to report that a mail delivery woman had been seen throwing the contents of the mail box on the back of a post office branded motorcycle into a rubbish container.
Local Police officers inspected the bin and found around 150 ordinary letters, including some from public bodies such as SEPE, the Tax Agency or the General Directorate of Traffic, amongst others. All the correspondence was recovered.
Subsequent investigations determined that the motorcyclist was employed by Correos and should have delivered the letters rather than throwing them in the bin.
She will now face an internal investigation by her employer, but is also liable for public prosecution as some of the letters she threw away contained personal information pertenent to those who should have received them, rendering her liable for prosecution for disclosure of private material.
All the evidence has now been submitted to the Investigating Court of San Javier who will decide if further action should be taken.
