Lorca gets two new hybrid buses
The City Council has shown its commitment to the modernisation of urban public transport with the purchase of two new hybrid buses
Two new hybrid buses have been added to the urban public transport fleet of Lorca this week, as a way of continuing to ‘green’ the city.
These new buses have already replaced those covering the routes of the lines connecting Apolonia with the Rafael Méndez Hospital (L1) and the Parque Almenara shopping centre (L2), both of which run alongside a third hybrid bus which is already in operation and a minibus to the hospital in the mornings.
Among the features of the new buses, the 48V hybrid system stands out, which reduces the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Each bus has 25 seats available, including single, double and family seats, three of which are specially adapted for people with reduced mobility, guaranteeing universal accessibility, in addition to two folding seats.
Around 1,500 people use Lorca’s public transport system every day, a 36% increase on last year when there were 1,100.
One of the factors contributing to the increase in the number of people using public transport in Lorca is the recent implementation of a real-time positioning system for city buses.
This project, which is part of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) co-financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU programme, has involved the distribution of more than 7,000 personalisable smart cards. Since it was brought in, passengers can consult timetables and estimated waiting times in real time via an app on their mobiles.
