Last Supper incorporated into the living Via Crucis during Semana Santa in Lorca
The Via Crucis attracts thousands of spectators on the Monday of Easter Week
The annual Via Crucics which is held by the Paso Morado brotherhood as part of the Semana Santa
celebrations in Lorca incorporates a new element this year, with the first re-enactment of the Last Supper.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of the traditional Via Crucis in Lorca, and this coincides with the third holding of the Living Via Crucis of the Paso Morado, which begins at the Iglesia de San Francisco and climbs up to the hill of El Calvario above the city. Last year approximately 5,000 people took part, and this year the event begins at 20.30 with the first re-enactment of the events of the Passion at the Iglesia de San Francisco.
This year the Living Via Crucis will also be performed in Águilas prior to the start of Semana Santa: the venue is the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena, and again the event starts at 20.30.
Taking part in the Paso Morado’s living Via Crucis are 50 people playing the parts of the individuals concerned, and the director of the event, Mariano Llamas, reports that the whole re-enactment will last approximately two hours.
