ARCHIVED - Infections begin to stabilise in Murcia: Covid update January 14
Region of Murcia reports less than 7,000 infections for the second consecutive day
The coronavirus pandemic is finally showing some signs of stabilising in the Region of Murcia as daily infections have remained below the 7,000-mark for the second day running. Despite the positive turn of events the sixth wave is still punishing the region and the health authorities believe that the incidence will continue to increase in the coming weeks before the peak is reached.
Coronavirus infections
A further 6,774 new Covid infections were registered on Thursday January 13, a slightly lower figure than the previous two days.
Of the new cases, 2,279 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 958 to Cartagena, 336 to Molina de Segura, 223 to Lorca, 209 to Alcantarilla, 185 to Yecla, 147 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 144 to Torre Pacheco, 139 to Totana and 124 to Águilas. The remainder are distributed throughout the other municipalities.
There are currently 38,935 people in the Region with coronavirus.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 551 patients hospitalised with Covid in Murcia, 28 more than on Wednesday, while 89 people are being treated in the ICU, four fewer.
A further 38,384 are in home isolation after testing positive.
Fatalities
The pandemic continues to show its deadliest face in this sixth wave and in the last 24 hours three fatalities have been reported. The deceased are two men and a woman aged 60, 68 and 70 years, from health area I (Murcia West). Two of them were not vaccinated.
This brings the overall death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,889.
Primary Care
The Primary Care Emergency Services (SUAP), reinforced by 061 teams, carried out a total of 3,067 antigen tests on Thursday, which allowed the detection of 564 positive for Covid-19 in seven municipalities of the Region, sources from the Ministry of Health reported in a statement.
About 300 troops of the 061 make up this special device that will remain active in different SUAP of the Region.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence figure has thankfully dipped to 4,349 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after skyrocketing to 4,711 on Wednesday. This figure is still well above the national average of 3,156 infections but by no means the worst in the country, as even with a slight decrease Navarra (6,903) and the Basque Country (6,531) are still dangerously high.
