ARCHIVED - Improvements at Mazarrón beaches as thoughts turn to the summer of 2020
An important step towards boosting year-round tourism in the Costa Cálida
The beaches close to the town centre of Puerto de Mazarrón are the subject of a special plan of action which has been drawn up by the departments of Services, Coastline and the Environment in the Town Hall of Mazarrón, and within which work is already beginning to improve and spruce them up with a view to the spring and summer of 2020.
At the beaches of Rihuete, the Paseo, La Ermita, Bahía and La Reya three days’ work have been completed to remove weeds, undergrowth and rubbish and to replenish the sand along the shore, and as the weekend approaches similar tasks are being performed at the beaches of Bolnuevo and El Alamillo as the project steadily moves on to tackle the series of stretches of sand in and around Puerto de Mazarrón.
At the same time street cleaning has been intensified along the seafront promenade, especially on side streets and the flights of steps which lead down to it.
The intention is to ensure that the beaches of municipality are seen in the best possible light throughout the year rather than only in the busy summer season, and those who enjoy the Costa Cálida during the winter will doubtless appreciate it. The prospect of a dip in the Mediterranean may be rather less appetizing during the cooler weather of winter, but the attractiveness of the beaches and the coastline is unquestionable and if progress is to be made towards the de-seasonalization of tourism in Mazarrón initiatives such as this one are of vital importance.
