ARCHIVED - Further restrictions in 10 municipalities of the Murcia Region with high numbers of covid cases
Beniel, Bullas, Ceutí, Cieza, Lorquí, Torre Pacheco, Archena, Abanilla, Fortuna and Totana
On Wednesday the region of Murcia announced that it would be closing its external borders and also limiting any movement between municipalities, so residents are only permitted to move around within the borders of their “home municipality”.
But in some municipalities further restrictions are being applied, due to the high levels of contagions within specific communities.
These areas are moving back to the “flexibilised phase 1 confinement” that has been used in the last few months to try and contain cases in areas of high incidence.
There are already three municipalities in this phase; Abanilla, Fortuna and Totana, to which the following municipalities are now added; Beniel, Bullas, Ceutí, Cieza, Lorquí, Torre Pacheco and Archena.
The 10 municipalities have all reported high accumulated incidence rates in the last 7 days (that’s cases per 100,000 of population);
733 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Beniel, 616.2 in Lorquí, 559.6 in Archena, 546.4 in Bullas, 543.9 in Fortuna, 543 in Ceutí, 527 in Torre Pacheco, 494.4 in Cieza 489.6 in Abanilla and 484.3 in Totana.
Anything above 25 cases per 100,000 is considered uncontrolled transmission by the WHO, so there is a huge amount of work to be done to control the transmission and bring the number of cases down as quickly as possible.
In these municipalities children will continue to go to school as normal.
In these areas bars and restaurants are not permitted to serve clients inside their premises, although are permitted to serve clients outside on exterior terraces to the maximum of their permitted capacity providing that tables are suitably distanced to respect social distancing measures.
Other businesses are only permitted to admit 50% of their total capacity of clients at any given time.
In addition, the elderly and at risk are advised not to leave their homes and all of the population are requested to keep social contact to a minimum.
Further restrictions may be announced following discussions between the regional government and local Mayors on Thursday.
