ARCHIVED - Cumulative incidence rate in Valencia drops below 30: Alicante Covid update May 17
Since the last update, 387 new cases have been diagnosed in the region of Valencia and 193 in the province of Alicante
The official bulletin posted by the regional government on Monday (May 17) reports 387 new coronavirus cases in the region of Valencia and 193 in the province of Alicante since the last update was published on Friday (May 14).
The number of Covid patients in the Alicante province’s hospitals is currently 40, of whom 10 are in intensive care. In addition, four more covid-related deaths were reported in the province while the total number of deaths in the Comunidad Valenciana was eight, according to Monday’s update.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the region of Valencia is inching slowly downwards and has now dropped below 30 to 29.48, remaining the lowest in the country.
The Balearic Islands (46.69) and the Region of Murcia (63.79) have the second and third lowest rates in Spain, respectively.
The national incidence rate is also decreasing and is now 151.82. The Basque Country (295.34) is currently the only Comunidad Autónoma in the extreme risk zone, defined by the government as an incidence rate of over 250.
The Valencian regional health authorities have administered a total of 2,225,457 coronavirus vaccines to date; 260,226 in Castellón province, 813,106 in Alicante province and 1,152,125 in Valencia province. 714,288 people are now fully vaccinated having received either two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca or a single dose of the monodose Janssen vaccine.
This week the Valencian authorities are beginning the vaccination of those aged 59 to 51.
