ARCHIVED - Covid cases in Spain pass the 300,000 mark on August 4th as numbers continue to rise
According to the latest update the number of cases is now 302,814.
Daily cases of coronavirus in Spain continue to increase and on Tuesday the Health Ministry reported 1,178 new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, 210 more than on Monday.
On Monday the daily data for Catalonia, Madrid and Navarra was not included in the report "due to technical problems" but today adjusted figures have been added;
Catalonia is now showing a total of 83,079 (+2,511); Madrid has added 1,773 to bring its total up to 77,918 and in Navarra 129 have been added to the total which is now 6,936.

Aragon reported 365 new cases, a third of the total new positives, although this does represent a significant reduction from the 586 new cases reported on Monday, followed by Madrid with 292.
Andalusia, which ranks third with 109 cases, is experiencing a situation similar to that of the Community of Madrid, with multiple medium-sized outbreaks, the latest total being 80.
In Catalonia, which has 109 positives, the transmission of the virus seems to be in decline.
Navarra, with 59 positives, and the Basque Country, with 52, follow behind, although in both cases the outbreaks appear to be on the wane.
The total number of deaths in Spain now stands at 28,494, of whom 34 have lost their lives in the last week, 15 of them in Aragon although, we’re told that the technical problems suffered in the region last week have caused delays in the notifications process. Five other people have died in Madrid, five in Catalonia; three in Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencian Community, and one in Andalusia, Extremadura and Castilla y León.
As normal, the number of new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours doesn´t match the difference in the total number of confirmed cases. Yesterday the health ministry reported 297,054 cases. Today the figure is 302,814, a difference of 5,760, so detracting the new cases diagnosed today, this means 4,582, infections first reported by the regions in the last few days have been corroborated and added to the overall figure to take it past the 300,000 mark.
The cumulative incidence rate (cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants), for the whole of Spain is now 38.68, and continues to vary considerably between regions, ranging from 298.57 in Aragon, 49.1 in the Basque Country, 43.82 in Madrid to 3.81 in the Canary Islands or 8.21 in La Rioja.
With 302,814 cases, Spain is still in twelfth place in the world with the most affected in absolute numbers, behind the United States (4,649,102), Brazil (2,707,877), India (1,803,695), Russia (856,264); South Africa (511,485); Mexico (434,193); Peru (422,183); Chile (359,731); Iran (309,437); Colombia (306,181) and the United Kingdom (305,623). On Tuesday evening the UK notified 670 new cases, updating the figure to 306,293.
