Corvera airport passenger numbers creep up slowly
The Region of Murcia International Airport had 2.1% more passengers this June than it did last year, but growth is going at a snail’s pace
The Region of Murcia International Airport closed the month of June with 109,450 passengers walking through its terminal, which is 2.1% more than the figures for the same period in 2022.
Of the total number of passengers registered this June, 108,307 were commercial passengers. Of these, international traffic was the majority, and exceeded the 2022 figures by 3.2% when there were 97,751 passengers. Domestic passengers coming from Spain, meanwhile, actually fell by 14.9% down to 10,556.
In terms of operations, Corvera airport handled 788 movements in June, 3.3% fewer than in 2022.
The Region of Murcia International Airport handled a total of 380,107 passengers during the first half of the year, which represents an increase of 8.8% in passenger traffic compared to the same months of the previous year. In terms of movements, the Murcia infrastructure operated 3,020 flights, 2.4% more than the same period in 2022.
While overall the airport is growing in terms of passenger numbers, this must surely be a disappointment given that 2023 is the first year when tourists are free and willing to travel again in large numbers after all Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
