ARCHIVED - Christmas street markets in Alicante: December 23, 24, 30 and 31
The city council has extended Alicante's municipal market opening hours to boost local trade over the festive period
Alicante City Council has agreed to extend the municipality's market opening hours to promote local shopping over the Christmas period.
Following requests from the Association of Traders Concessionaires in the Municipal Markets of Alicante, the José Manuel Gosálbez, Carolinas, Benalúa and Babel open-air markets will be open 7am to 3pm on Thursday December 23 and Friday December 24, as Saturday is a public holiday, as well as on Thursday December 30 and Friday December 31 due to the closure on New Year's Day.
And prior to Christmas, Central, Carolinas, Benalúa and Babel municipal markets will stay open until 5pm, "to deal with an anticipated increase in customers". Traders will also be given extended hours to set up and prepare Christmas orders.
"This will help to revitalise and facilitate shopping at our municipal markets and in traditional local quality shops by making them more accessible to the public," said Councillor for Commerce, Lidia López.
