ARCHIVED - Castilla y León applies 14 day curfew from Saturday onwards
Hospital visits are suspended in all hospitals and patients must attend appointments alone; no companions are permitted
On Friday Castilla y León reported 2,010 new cases of Covid-19, the first time the figure has exceeded 2,000 in a single day since the pandemic began, bringing its total to date up to 76,972 positives. 23 fatalities were reported on the same day, again, the highest figure since the second wave of the pandemic began in a single day and bringing the total fatalities in the region up to 2,670.
The region is amongst those pushing the Spanish Government to impose a state of emergency and on Thursday the regional president of the Junta, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, wrote to the Prime Minister urging him to declare a state of emergency and allow the regional governmenrs to impose the measures required without recourse to the judiciary. “We understand that the intensity and virulence of the situation requires that we go a step further and this is why we ar implementing the curfew from this weekend, “ he said. On Sunday the Spanish Cabinet will meet in extraordinary session and is expected to approve a state of emergency:
From today, Saturday October 24th, The Junta de Castilla y León will apply a curfew which partially and temporarily limits -between 22.00 and 06.00 hours for the next 14 days- freedom of movement within the Community.
This has been agreed, given the "continued worsening" of the epidemiological and healthcare situation in Castilla y León, during an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council held today.
The Official Gazette of Castilla y León has published today an extraordinary edition with this agreement, so that it is publicized before its first application tonight.
The Legal Services of the Autonomous Administration will transfer this measure to the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León, in order to obtain the appropriate ratification. Also today, the Cecopis - Covid-19 integrated operational coordination centers will be convened, within the framework of the Territorial Plan for Civil Protection activated and at level 2 - in all provinces for the coordination of the entire operation for the application of the curfew in Castile and Leon.
It will only be possible to circulate on public roads and spaces to acquire pharmaceutical and basic necessity products; attend health centers, services and establishments; travel to the workplace; assist and care for the elderly, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or especially vulnerable people. Also due to force majeure or situation of need or other activity of a similar nature that will have to be done individually, unless accompanying people with disabilities or for another justified reason and return to the place of habitual residence, after having carried out the previous activities.
In addition, the statement continues, during the period established between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day, throughout the Community, only private vehicles will be allowed to circulate on public roads to carry out the aforementioned activities or for the refueling at gas stations and service stations.
On Friday the confinement of Ponferrada in León began.
The circulation of vehicles by road and roads that pass or cross the territorial scope of Castilla y León will be allowed as long as they have their origin and destination outside of it. In any case, in any allowed displacement made during those hours, the orders and obligations issued by the health authorities must be respected, they explain from the Board.
Measures referring to the limitation of citizen mobility and restrictions on circulation (perimeter closures) in force through the different orders issued by the Ministry of Health and that, chronologically, affect the municipalities of Pedrajas de San Esteban (Valladolid), Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), León, Palencia, San Andrés del Rabanedo (León), San Pedro Latarce (Valladolid), Salamanca, Aranda de Duero (Burgos), Burgos and Ponferrada (León) remain in place.
