Cartagena to receive 20,000 cruise passengers in bumper August
Murcia’s port city will receive no fewer than nine cruises and thousands of tourists
As the month of July draws to a close with the arrival today of the cruise ship Aidacosma, with 2,500 passengers on board, the Port of Cartagena is already preparing to receive a whole glut of luxury cruises in August which will not only bring thousands of tourists, but hopefully also significantly boost the local economy, including bars, restaurants, museums and historical landmarks.
One of the first cruise ships to arrive in Cartagena this August will be Carnival Cruises’ Aidastella, with capacity for 2,500 cruise passengers. This ship will dock on Sunday August 4, offering passengers a full day to explore Cartagena.
On Wednesday August 7, Cunard’s majestic Queen Anne will arrive at 7am and stay until 5pm, with 3,000 tourists on board, ready to enjoy the city’s rich cultural offerings.
On Friday August 9, the Seabourn Ovation of Seabourn Cruise Line, with 638 passengers, will enter the port. This ship, although smaller in capacity, has a higher level of luxury and exclusivity which will attract tourists with high purchasing power.
Wind Cruises’ Wind Surf, known for being one of the largest sailing ships in the world, will arrive on Sunday August 11 at 7am and will set sail at 12 with 300 tourists, offering a unique nautical experience to its passengers.
On Monday August 12, the port will receive the Britannia from P&O Cruises, one of the largest ships of the season with a capacity for 3,600 cruise passengers. This ship, together with its second arrival on the Sunday August 25, promises to be a considerable boost to local trade.
Aida Cruises’ Aidacosma, also with 2,500 passengers, will dock on Wednesday August 14, ensuring another busy day for tourists.
In addition, the Carnival Legend, from the Carnival Cruises company, will bring another 2,500 passengers on Sunday August 25, complementing the arrival of the Britannia on the same day.
Finally, the month will close with the arrival of Ritz Carlton’s Evrima on Thursday August 29. This exclusive cruise ship, with just 298 passengers, will offer an unrivalled luxury experience, attracting visitors with a high level of demand and appreciation for quality.
All in all, the arrival of these cruise ships promises an August that will not only be hot but also intense for the tourist industry in Cartagena.
For 2025, Cartagena has promised to offer juicy tax cuts and bonuses for cruise ships to try to attract more of this type of tourism.
