Carlos Alcaraz continues his winning streak with a win at the Doha ATP 500
The 22-year-old World No.1 from El Palmar in Murcia extended his unbeaten start to the year, beating Arthur Fils to claim his ninth ATP 500 title
Not long after becoming the youngest man in history to complete the Career Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz added another trophy to his collection at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha. He defeated France’s Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-1 in just 50 minutes, in one of the fastest finals of his career.
From the start, Alcaraz dictated the play. His speed, athleticism, and precise shot-making kept Fils under constant pressure. Even when Fils tried to push back from the baseline, Alcaraz’s defensive brilliance and calm finishing touches kept him in control. With this win, he extended his winning streak to 12 matches.
This was Alcaraz’s ninth ATP 500 title, putting him level with former World No. 1 Andy Murray for the fourth-highest number of ATP 500 titles since the series began in 2009. He’s also now unbeaten in 30 consecutive outdoor hard-court matches, including Grand Slam victories at the Australian Open and US Open, making him one of the most consistent players on this surface.
Alcaraz’s record in finals is amazing. Out of 34 career finals, he has won 26, giving him a win rate of 76.4%. That’s higher than most of the all-time greats. Rafael Nadal retired with 70.2%, Novak Djokovic sits at 69.6%, Roger Federer at 65.6%, and even his current rival Jannik Sinner has 72.7%. Only Thomas Muster, who played mostly smaller events in the 1990s, had a better record at 80%.
In total, Alcaraz now has seven Grand Slam titles, two at the US Open, two at Wimbledon, two at Roland Garros, and the recent Australian Open win. Only Novak Djokovic among active players has more. At 22, Alcaraz is already cementing himself as one of the top players of his generation.
Watching him in action is always a spectacle, but it’s not just his tennis that impresses. Alcaraz plays with a smile on his face, his humble and likeable personality shining through, and he continues to make the people of Murcia proud.
