British tourist stabbed in the stomach in Tenerife holiday resort
The 22-year-old was seriously injured in Playa de las Américas on the Spanish island
A young British holidaymaker is in intensive care in Tenerife after being stabbed in the stomach in the early hours of Sunday July 28. The 22-year-old was knifed in the Playa de las Américas resort, close to where Jay Slater partied right before he disappeared last month.
Paramedics attended to the victim at the scene before transferring him to the ICU at The Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital in the Tenerife capital of Santa Cruz.
According to local sources, the Briton was on holiday in Spain, but this has yet to be confirmed by officials.
A spokesperson for an emergency response co-ordination centre said: “A British man aged 22 has been taken to the Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital.
“He had a serious stomach stab wound when he was assisted at the scene.
“We received an emergency call just before 6.30am this morning requesting assistance for an injured man in a street called Avenida Antonio Domínguez Alfonso in the municipality of Arona.”
A Spanish man has since been arrested for the attack, but National Police officers leading the probe refuse to say more than “the incident remains under investigation”.
Exactly a week before this incident, the body of a 35-year-old British man was found near a beach in Mojácar, in the province of Almería. The deceased was discovered with two deep wounds on his forehead.
So far, police have not released more details of the case, nor what hypotheses they are following for the cause of death.
It comes after another Brit was stabbed to death last month outside the Oxygen nightclub in the town of Calella in Barcelona. Police have since made an arrest in the murder of the 30-year-old tourist.
