Brit husband dies and wife in hospital after being hit by drunk driver in Los Alcazares
The hit-and-run driver was three times over the limit and didn’t have a licence
A British couple were seriously injured on Tuesday night, July 9, when they were hit by a drunk driver outside their hotel in the Mar Menor area.
The husband, 50, and wife, 48, were staying at the Hotel Costa Narejos in Los Narejos.
They were returning to their accommodation just after 11pm and were crossing the road when they were hit by the car.
The driver fled, but was soon caught by Los Alcázares Local Police. A breathalyser test showed that he was more than three times over the alcohol limit.
It also emerged that he was driving without a valid driver’s licence.
Paramedics treated and stabilised the condition of the British couple at the scene.
The woman was then transferred to the ICU at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia city, while her partner was first admitted to Los Arcos del Mar Menor Hospital in San Javier.
It was later confirmed by Councillor for Local Police in Los Alcázares, Mari Carmen Guevara, that the man died from his injuries in the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
A 70-year-old woman sadly died on Tuesday morning on the beach of Los Narejos when she had a heart attack while swimming in the water of the Mar Menor.
