ARCHIVED - Balneario de Archena named the top spa resort in Spain
The services and facilities at the spa resort in Archena earn the “Wellness Experience 2019” prize
The prestigious “Wellness Experience 2019” prize for the best spa resort in Spain has been awarded to the thermal spa resort of Archena in central Murcia at a ceremony held in Barcelona during the “Piscina & Wellness” fair.
Representatives of the complex travelled to the capital of Catalunya to accept the prize, which is a recognition of the excellence of the facilities and services offered at the Balneario de Archena. In being chosen for the honour Archena warded off very strong competition in the final from two spa resorts in the north of Spain, the Las Caldas Villa Termal resort in Oviedo (Asturias) and the Eurostar Gran Hotel La Toja in the province of Pontevedra (Galicia).
The Balneario de Archena is one of the leading establishments in the growing sector of health through water treatments in Spain, and occupies a total of over 200,000 square metres on the bank of the River Segura at the southern end of the Ricote valley. This lush green setting is just 24 kilometres from the city of Murcia and under an hour by car from San Javier on the shore of the Mar Menor, as well as being within easy striking distance of Mazarrón and the south-west of the Region.
The complex has been in use since the time of the Roman occupation of this part of the Iberian Peninsula in the third century BC and offers a full range of thermal spa leisure options including thermal baths, thermal spa circuit, health and beauty treatments as well as three hotels and various restaurants which are open throughout the year.
At the heart of the Balneario is the water which emanates from a natural spring at a temperature of 52.5 degrees Celsius and with a high mineral content which makes it particularly beneficial for treating sore joints and also facilitates the natural repair processes of the skin.
