ARCHIVED - Balearic Islands Government confines 23,000 inhabitants of four neighborhoods in Palma de Mallorca
The Balearic Government will confine from Friday, and for a minimum of 15 days, the Palma de Mallorca neighborhoods of Son Gotleu, Can Capes, La Soledat Nord and a part of Son Canals, where almost 23,000 people live in the area with the highest incidence of coronavirus of the islands.
The residents of these neighborhoods will not be able to leave the area except for essential activities such as going to work or the doctor and family and social gatherings are restricted to a maximum of 5 people.
Bars and restaurants are only allowed to open to a maximum of 50% occupancy and must close by 22:00.
The Minister of Health, Patricia Gómez, has stressed, accompanied by the Mayor of Palma, Jose Hila, that these measures are taken "to protect above all the population of this area and, therefore, the population of the Balearic Islands."
The measures come into effect on Friday 11th September at 22:00 and are valid for a period of 15 days.
During the last 24 hours, 329 cases of Covid have been reported in the Balearic Islands and one death. The total number of cases reported to date in the Islands is now 10,242; 8,640 correspoding to Mallorca, 309 to Menorca, 1100 to Ibiza and 88 to Fomentera.
To date there have been 256 deaths in the islands, 2.5% of the cases diagnosed, and 8,012 patients tested by PCR tests have recovered.
The number of active cases is currently 1,974.
