ARCHIVED - Repairs and restoration continue in Los Alcázares after the September flooding
The worst of the mud has gone but flood damage is still being repaired
It may no longer be front page news, but now that the worst of the debris and mud brought by floodwater during the huge “gota fría” storm in mid-September has been cleared from the streets of Los Alcázares there is still plenty more work to be done in the town, and council workers are being deployed on a daily basis to restore the streets and parks to acceptable condition.
One of the jobs which is still being carried out is to spray parks and gardens with insecticide to combat the proliferation of mosquitoes after eggs were laid in stagnant floodwater, and at the same time the clean-up and repair operation is on-going. Paving slabs have to be relaid, parks and gardens cleared, street furniture repaired and of course although the worst fo the mud has disappeared many streets still have a surface coating obscuring the tarmac.
As meteorologists warn that there is a possibility – only a possibility but a widely recognized one – of another isolated high altitude depression forming over the Mediterranean coast of Spain next week, potentially bringing with it more heavy rain, it must be hoped that these commendable efforts to restore normality will not prove to be in vain…
