ARCHIVED - 305 active cases in the Murcia Region on Friday
53 new Covid cases have been detected in the last 24 hours

The outbreaks which have started to cause so many problems for the regional health authorities in the Murcia Region this week continued to yield new cases on Friday, with a further 53 positives compounding a miserable week for the regional government, to reach 305 active cases.
14 of the new cases are related to the Atalayas outbreak in Muria city which resulted in the closure of four night-time leisure venues and the subsequent restrictions passed by the regional government on Tuesday closing any such venues without outdoor terraces and limiting the opening hours of bars, cocktail bars and nocturnal leisure venues.
As a result, several summer clubs and discos have drawn up the shutters for this summer, saying it is no longer viable for their businesses to open.
The Atalayas outbreak now accounts for 65 cases.
The outbreak which forced the confinement of Totana yesterday and originated in a bar frequented by the Latin-American population of the municipality, numbering some 3,500 people according to the town hall, has increased by a further 30 people in the last 24 hours, with 85 positives.
This morning there were lengthy queues outside the health centres in the town for PCR tests and it is expected that the number of cases will increase significantly in the next few days.
Nobody is permitted to enter or leave the municipality for at least the next seven days, when the confinement measure or the “mobility restriction” as it is being called by the regional health authority,is reviewed.
This morning social media also showed large queues forming in Totana supermarkets as shoppers stocked-up.
There is also a potential problem brewing in Mula where four positives have been detected after at least 30 people attended a birthday celebration without wearing masks.
This morning in an interview with the rtve television station the regional president was highly critical of the Spanish Government for permitting repatriation flights to enter Spain during the lockdown period without covid testing the returning Spanish residents.
Most of these existing Covid cases directly relate back to the arrival of just three Bolivian nationals from Bolivia on 3rd June via a flight through Barajas airport, the so-called Bolivian case which has killed one person and left at least 150 in quarantine.
Yesterday the Madrid government yet again called for more stringent testing at Spanish airports saying that 42 Covid positive travellers had been detected landing at Barajas airport during July so far; the Madrid government wants covid testing prior to boarding to be mandatory on flights from high risk areas.
There have now been 3.741 cases in the Murcia Region since the pandemic began.
Hospitals are coping as most of the new cases are mild, and as a result there are only 16 patients hospitalised, with just one patient in intensive care.
The remaining 289 patients are at home in domestic isolation.
1579 patients have now recovered from the virus (NB: only cases tested via the PCR swab test system are included in the regional figures).
