ARCHIVED - Andalucia covid infection rates increase slightly following 23 day decline: Covid update May 14
The number of Covid cases in Andalucia has not fallen in the past 24 hours.
Following a steady decline in the number of new infections in Andalucia over the past 23 days, new figures showed that the number of Covid cases reported within the last 24 hours have increased fractionally, by 0.28 per cent.
The latest figures from the Andalucian Institute of Statistics (ICEA) showed that the incidence rate per 100,000 people remained stable overnight, while the number of new cases registered in the past 24 hours, 1,602, is slightly higher than the 1,515 cases reported on Friday seven days ago.
The number of new deaths has also increased to 11 from the nine reported seven days ago.
The cumulative incidence rate (the figure which calculates the number of cases per 100,000 of population) in Andalucia now stands at 171.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, down 20.42 per cent on the same day last week, so showing the same clear improvement as the graph.
The Comunidad Valenciana is the Spanish region with the lowest 14-day incidence rate (32.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), although Murcia, Extremadura, Galicia, the Canaries, the Balearics and Asturias are also under 100, while at the other end of the scale only Aragón (259), Madrid (267) and the Basque Country (333) remain above the “extreme risk” threshold of 250.
The national average is 166 cases per 100,000 of population, so the level of cases in the Andalucía region is slightly higher than the national average.
By provinces, Sevilla is again the area with the most new positive cases in the past 24 hours with 515, followed by Granada with 277, Malaga with 270, Jaen with 152, Cadiz with 116, Huelva with 132, Almeria with 67, and Cordoba, with 73.
The area with the highest number of new deaths was Granada with four, followed by Jaen and Cadiz with three and Cordoba with one.
Andalucia is currently continuing with its vaccine rollout, and is one of the eight regions of Spain aiming to vaccinate those aged under 50 from the beginning of June.
As of Friday May 14, the Andalusian health authorities have given at least one dose to 2,519,205 residents, accounting for 35.6 per cent of the adult population and 1,223,920 residents have completed the vaccination process with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca or a single dose of Janssen.
3,680,920 doses have been administered in the region to date.
