Alternate arrangement to be made for one of the Camposol garden waste piles
Councillor for Camposol makes alternate arrangement for Camposol garden waste pile to be removed
In a recent meeting between Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol, Carmen Navarro and the Camposol Business Association, the Councillor informed the Association that as the contract for dealing with all 5 of Camposol’s 5 garden waste piles would take some time, in the meantime she had arranged for one of the piles to be dealt with at a cost of €30,000.
The councillor pointed out that the pile on the land adjacent to the road leading to the Camposol golf club and the currently vacant hotel on Sector C was the target as it was far more visible than the other areas where garden waste was being deposited and it was also on privately owned land. The waste would be dealt with by the same contractor who had submitted a tender to process all the waste piles.
The Councillor had previously explained at a meeting with the 4 registered Camposol gardening groups that the collection of the garden waste currently accumulated in the 5 areas around the urbanisation has been delayed as the contractor who tendered for the work, which by law has to include composting, has put forward a cost in the hundreds of thousands which is in excess of what is classed as minor works and the tender will have to be treated as a major works contract, a process that is more involved and takes longer to approve.
Unlike the other garden waste piles which were by and large on Council controlled land and not immediately visible, the deposit on Sector C was wholly on private land and clearly visible by drivers and pedestrians using Avenida de los Covachos the main road through C Sector and visitors to the golf club and clubhouse.
The Councillor also stressed that this action was being taken because of the extenuating circumstances of the location and to alleviate the garden waste situation until the contract for the full removal of all Camposol’s garden waste could be started and could not be repeated for the other locations.
At the meeting with the registered Camposol gardening groups in August it was agreed that the preferred solution was to have 2 collection points on the urbanisation which would be fenced off and have security cameras to dissuade fly tipping. The possibility of the areas being manned was also raised and will be looked into further.
The 2 areas agreed on were current areas being used for the deposit of garden waste – one off Calle Andalucia on Sector A and at the southern end of Calle Esparraguera on Sector D. The fenced-off area on Sector C near the vacant hotel will remain as it is with the possibility that it could be used as a collection point for other types of recycling.
