ARCHIVED - Águilas re-opens its beaches in phase 2 for swimming and sport
ARCHIVED ARTICLE Águilas has 36 beautiful beaches and coves
Each town hall of the Murcia region has full discretion about how and when it opens its beaches, and in Águilas, which has 36 beautiful beaches and a vast coastline, the town hall has opted for a relaxed approach.
Águilas has a series of town beaches which run along the main frontline of the urban town and in the peak of the summer season can get fairly busy, but move slightly to either side of the urban area and vast beaches stretch out along the coastline before turning into a series of unspoilt natural coves which stretch for kilometres along the coast.
A glorious vast beach can be enjoyed in front of the municipal auditorium and there is so much space that the council believes it is absolutely pointless trying to cordon off any of the sand to enable visitors to practice social distancing; bumping into anyone else is pretty much impossible on this amount of sand at this time of year!
However, the council has decided to keep chemical toilets and footwashes closed until the main season begins, normally in the middle of June, when the situation will be reviewed.Ther is no lifeguard cover until the beginning of June as normal.
Beach bars are being constructed this week.
The town hall is opening two municipal swimming pools this week for anyone wishing to use these facilities.
