Hospitalisations reach another record high
The regional department of health has published its daily Covid-19 figures for Wednesday 21st October, notifying an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the region of 671 new cases and 5 fatalities within the last 24 hours.
New cases notified by municipality; Murcia city 219; Cartagena 82; Molina de Segura 28, 24 in Alcantarilla, 24 in San Javier, 23 in Caravaca de la Cruz, 19 in Cieza, 18 in Jumilla, 17 in Torre Pacheco, 16 in Yecla, 13 in Los Alcázares, 13 in Totana, 13 in La Unión, 12 in Alhama de Murcia, 12 in Bullas, 12 in Fuente Álamo, 10 in Ceutí, 10 in Lorca, 9 in Mula, 8 in Archena, 8 in Cehegín, 7 in Águilas, 5 in Abarán, 5 in Fortuna, 5 in Mazarrón, and 5 in Santomera, with the remainder distributed amongst the remaining municipalities in smaller quantities.
Accumulated incidence rate:
The rate per 100,000 of population has increased to 264 across the Murcia Region. The worst affected municipality is Fortuna with a rate of 781, followed by Totana with 562, Abanilla with 489 and Ceutí with 432. There are 21 municipalities with IA rates exceeding the regional average.

PCR testing:
The 671 new cases are the fruit of 4,656 PCR tests taken within the last 24 hour period, yielding a positive rate of 13.2%. The region has now carried out 318,094 PCR tests as well as 71,456 antibody tests, detecting a total of 29,914 positive cases in the region since the start of the pandemic.
Fatalities:
Two further fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to date up to 272; an 84 year old male from Lorca and an 82 year old female from Molina de Segura.
Hospitalisations:
The number of patients hospitalised reached another record level on Tuesday (figures published on Weds. relate to Tues.), rising by six admissions to 407. The number in intensive care fell by one person to 77. The number of active cases in the region is now 9,185, so this leaves 8,778 patients isolating at home
Recoveries.
The total number of patients recovered is now 18,751.
154 new outbreaks in the Murcia Region during the last week;
The 154 outbreaks detected in the Murcia Region during the last week involve a total of 1,024 people.
Of these, a hundred originate in the domestic family environment; a further 30 outbreaks have occurred in the social sphere with friends gathering, with 215 people affected, and 23 are related to work activities, with 171 associated patients.
The Covid spokesperson for the regional health authority, Jaime Pérez,explained in his presentation that "contagion occurs when masks are removed due to trust in the family environment; in the workplace it occurs at meal times and in the social sphere also when relaxing", for which he recommends that "a mask should only be removed to sip coffee or bite into toast, but immediately put it back on. " Also, remember the importance of always keeping it in a clean area, whether in a paper envelope or in a bag.”
