ARCHIVED - 4 deaths over the weekend on the roads of Murcia
Two of the fatal accidents took place in the municipality of Molina de Segura
The weekend just ended was a tragic one on the roads of Murcia with four people losing their lives in accidents in Molina de Segura, Los Alcázares and Santomera.
The first fatality occurred in Santomera on Saturday morning when a 79-year-old pedestrian was hit by a lorry, and this was followed during the afternoon by the death of a motorcyclist who lost control of his bike in Molina and collided with a lamppost. In the second incident the victim was a local police officer in Archena, where two days of official mourning were declared and flags were flown at half-mast.
On Sunday morning the sequence of accidents continued when at 8.45 another motorcyclist died on the M-301a between Murcia and Molina de Segura when he collided with a woman who had stepped out of her car after being involved in another accident, and the bad news continued at 13.45 when a 58-year-old man died in yet another collision, this time on the southbound carriageway of the AP-7 motorway in Los Alcázares.
Two others were injured in the last incidents and were taken for treatment to the Los Arcos del Mar Menor hospital in San Javier, while also in the Mar Menor area another man was hospitalized on Saturday after his car collided with a tractor in Balsapintada, in the municipality of Fuente Álamo.
