ARCHIVED - 2.045 new Covid cases in Spain since Friday
The Ministry of Health has recorded 2045 new cases of Covid across Spain since Friday according to the latest data published today.
No breakdown data was published at the weekend, and officially the Ministry only notified the media of 164 cases in the last 24 hours, with three deceased in the three day period.
However, the overall total number of cases shown is now 255,953 as opposed to 253,908 on Friday, hence the actual figure of 2,045.
In the last 7 days there have been 3,933 new cases diagnosed via PCR swab tests, of which more than half were registered in Catalonia; 2,148 cases.
Meanwhile, the rate of deaths continues to drop. In the last week, 7 deaths have been reported, 3 since last Friday.
The Health Minister, Salvador Illa, stated in the daily press conference with the media that there are currently 120 outbreaks in 15 of the 17 autonomous regions, affecting 2,139 cases.
He also indicated that the profile of those beig affected is changing, as undoubtedly many of the new outbreaks derive from groups of younger people, many of them meeting up in larger groups than is permitted for fiestas, drinking sessions or just to chat and socialise.
“Weeks ago, most of the cases were older people. Now practically all the increases by age group affect people under 50 years of age," he said, saying that most of the infections now occur among workers and younger people.
Aragón moves back to “a flexibilised phase 2”
