Semana Santa hits Andalucía's coast with beaches ready to welcome visitors
From the Costa del Sol to Almería, popular shores are in full swing again with safety and comfort in mind
Semana Santa is giving Andalucía’s coast its first real spring moment of the year, and the beaches are eager to welcome you back.On the Costa del Sol, over 80% of the coastline will be equipped with full services during the holidays, including lifeguards, showers, footbaths and restrooms. From the city of Málaga to Marbella, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Benalmádena, the local Ayuntamientos have been busy repairing and cleaning after recent storms so that people can enjoy a comfortable and safe stretch of sand.
In the city of Málaga, lifeguard and rescue services are operateçing from Friday March 28 to Sunday April 5, between 11.00am and 7.30pm, along fifteen urban beaches stretching 13.5 kilometres. Eight lifeguard towers, eleven lifeguards, a coordinator, a boat captain and two jet skis are all part of the operation.
Beaches such as Guadalmar, Misericordia, Malagueta, La Caleta and El Palo will be fully equipped, with access paths and furniture also repaired. In Torremolinos, 23 lifeguards will be based at eleven lifeguard towers, supported by an ambulance, a coordination vehicle and jet skis, including services adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Elsewhere on the Costa del Sol, things move at a similar pace. Estepona and Marbella keep showers and footbaths open, with restrooms available at the main beaches. Fuengirola offers lifeguard cover and services along its seven kilometres of coastline, while Benalmádena will keep its showers and restrooms open and is adding a new touch: solar radiation meters that show real‑time UV levels.
Up the coast, on either side of the Costa del Sol in Almería and Cádiz, Ayuntamientos are also preparing for the Easter rush. In Almería, town councils have repaired walkways, added shade structures and brought beach facilities up to standard, even though the regular lifeguard season normally starts in June.
In Cádiz, the Ayuntamiento has expanded lifeguard coverage for the first time during Holy Week, adding Santa María del Mar beach to the already‑protected La Caleta and La Victoria beaches.
Further west, in Huelva and the Costa Tropical, beaches are being groomed for the early influx of visitors. Matalascañas, La Antilla, Islantilla and La Línea de la Concepción are all increasing cleaning, security and maintenance, with public restrooms, showers and special operations in place.
And so, from Huelva to Almería, passing through Cádiz and Málaga, the coast is shaking off winter and ready to welcome visitors: it is Semana Santa on the beach, Andalucía‑style.
